Jessy is talking dates and holidays, but Joey wants to ‘crack on with life Joey Essex style’

In their first interview after Love Island, it’s awkwardly clear they’re not on the same page

Just ahead of the Love Island 2024 final, couple Jessy Potts and Joey Essex were savagely dumped. After being voted one of the least compatible couples by their fellow Islanders, the dumped cast members returned to make the final decision, and sent Jessy and Joey home.

The main argument the current and former Islanders said as to why Jessy and Joey should go home was because Joey has an opinion on everyone, and hasn’t considered Jessy’s feelings. They also argued Joey wouldn’t be able to fit Jessy into his busy lifestyle after Love Island.

Joey and Jessy defended themselves and said they’d make it work after the villa, but in their exit interview from the show the cracks look apparent. Let’s just say, their answers to what they have planned next don’t exactly match up.

How do Joey and Jessy feel about being dumped from Love Island 2024?

It must be pretty savage to be dumped the day before the final, but Jessy and Joey are both adamant they might be gutted, but they’re still pleased. “I’m gutted to have left because I was loving life in the villa but I’m very happy to be leaving with Joey having made memories that will last a lifetime and friendships I’m looking forward to continuing on the outside,” Jessy said.

Joey doesn’t really seem to be thinking too much about Jessy, and is instead buzzing that it’s his birthday. He said: “It feels good to be leaving, I feel like I had an amazing run in there, went through the full cycle of emotions you get in the villa, and if you have to leave, you might as well go out with a bang…It’s  my birthday on Monday so feels like I’m going out at a good time.”

As the results from the dumped Islanders came in, it was asked if any had chosen to dump Joey for personal reasons. Throughout his time in the villa, Joey has rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way, and his actions directly meant people like Sam and Samantha were sent packing.

All the Islanders said it was nothing personal, but Jessy doesn’t buy it. “A few of them had a personal vendetta against Joey which was made apparent in their answers,” she said.

When asked what’s next for them both as a couple, it’s become pretty clear they might not be on the same page. Jessy spoke loads about her plans with Joey, and said: “I couldn’t be happier, I’m excited to see where it goes on the outside.”

She added: “First on the list is to meet each other’s family and friends and visit Essex for the first time. Joey is going to take me for dinner at Sheesh and we want to go on holiday to LA and The Maldives.”

Whereas when Joey was asked exactly the same question, what’s next for him after Love Island, he didn’t mention a single thing to do with Jessy. Instead he said he wants to get back to how his life was before the show. Awkward.

He said: “Visit my friends and family, maybe apologise to a few for keeping it a secret for them, and then crack on with life Joey Essex style.”

Uh-oh.
