Just like Stay Close, The Stranger is another mystery thriller series based on a novel by Harlan Coben. This story focuses on what seems like a perfect family, but cracks soon begin to show when a stranger turns up and tells the father, Adam Price, he should run a DNA test on his sons and that his wife is lying to him. The Stranger ends up knowing pretty much everything about everyone, and Adam Price is played by Richard Armitage who is also Ray in Stay Close.
Behind Her Eyes
Behind Her Eyes is the sort of show you won’t forget in a hurry. The six-part drama is about a single mother who begins an affair with her new boss, before secretly befriending his mysterious wife too. This of course gets her into a huge web of lies and secrets. It’s based on the book with the same name by Sarah Pinborough. Trust me, the ending will stay with you forever.
You know Safe is going to be good, because like Stay Close, it’s also a series by Harlan Coben. His eldest teen daughter goes missing, and Tom begins his own investigation to find her. In turn, he finds out lots of dark secrets about those closest to him.
In terms of series with huge twists endings and learning things you never expected about each character, Clickbait is up there. It follows the disappearance of Nick Brewer. Nick is a loving father, husband, and brother, who one day suddenly and mysteriously doesn’t show up for work and nobody can get hold of him. A video appears on the internet of a badly beaten Nick holding a card that says “I abuse women. At five million views, I die”. But one thing isn’t known: Is this a threat or confession? Or both?
The Deceived is about a young English student called Ophelia who falls in love with her married lecturer, Michael. The Netflix synopsis reads: “A student’s illicit affair with her married professor takes a sinister turn when a shocking death makes her question their love — and her sanity.” If you wanted anymore reason to watch it, Paul Mescal is in it. White House Farm
Over three decades ago a crime shocked the entire nation and was front page news everywhere. It was the story of the White House Farm murders, where five members of the same family lost their lives. The BBC made the story into a drama, which has now been released on Netflix too. Police first believed the murders had been committed by the daughter of the family and she had committed suicide, but the drama tells the story of what really happened to the Bamber family.
Collateral is a four-part thriller drama set in London that takes place over four days. When a pizza delivery driver is shot down, Detective Inspector Kip Glaspie is left in charge of the investigation and refuses to accept the murder is just a random act of violence. She soon finds herself being drawn into the darker side of underworld London.
The Salisbury Poisonings
The BBC’s 2020 drama about the real life events of The Salisbury Poisonings has been released on Netflix. It retells the shocking true story of what happened in Wiltshire in 2018 when Salisbury became the site of an unprecedented national emergency. Russian nationals Sergei and Yulia Skripal were infected with a nerve agent, Novichok, in what was suspected to be a targeted attack by the Russian state. Other victims were later poisoned and people were taken ill from the spread of the agent. The three-part dramatisation focuses on the extraordinary heroism shown by the local community.
