Calling all Carrie Bradshaw enthusiasts. The York Tab is officially recruiting new writers for 2026/27, and we want you!
As we begin the new academic year, many of us are excited to try new things, and others ( ahem, third years) are beginning to freak out about our CVs Regardless, The York Tab has a place for you!
We’re hosting our open meeting on Monday 28th September at 6pm in SLB/004.
What is The Tab?

For first years who don’t know or returners who have somehow escaped our campus interviews, The Tab is the UK’s largest student media company. With that, we are also the most influential.
We are written by students for student, hence everything we write has the student experience at the centre of it. Say goodbye to finance reports and hello to bar recommendations, opinion pieces and features about nearly everything you can imagine.
We were founded at the University of Cambridge in 2009 and since then have grown to cover all major UK university cities. So no matter where you go in the UK, you can probably find us.
Why should you write for us?
Okay before I give you the “grown up” answer, I’m going to give you the fun answer.
Writing for The Tab is genuinely a great time (trust me I’ve been doing it since my fresher’s year). We give you creative freedom as a writer meaning you can write about anything you want, from your favourite bars in York, to student fashion, to Student Union affairs.
In short, you can boost your CV through having a pint and having an opinion about it. The dream life.
On a more serious and “grown up” note, writing for us is amazing work experience which you simply won’t get elsewhere. The Tab and The York Tab specifically work with some amazing brands and societies.
Last year we had the opportunity to attend all the student fashion shows across the year, go to fight night, support Movemeber, and interview both Gregg James and Love Island star Ciaran Davies. The Tab HQ even runs internships in the summer, an opportunity for successful writers to grow their CV even further.
The best bit, we put no expectations on you as a writer. You can write what you want, when you want.
So, you want to find out more?
If this all sounds like something that you would be interested in and you want to find out more, we have our first open meeting on Monday 28th September in SLB/004 at 6pm.
We hope to see you there,
The York Tab team x
