HYROX athlete posts (then deletes) witty response after choosing to poo herself rather than quit

Athletes are something else, because this woman called Joanna Wietrzyk chose to poo herself instead of quitting a HYROX competition. 

The viral moment came over the weekend in Beijing, China, with the woman of the hour, Joanna Wietrzyk, choosing to continue in the circuit even as a runny dark liquid streaked down her legs. Yuck. Even after doing the deed, she continued with the rowing machine, sledge push, and medicine ball throwing sections. 

Ultimately, the gamble paid off, and Joanna won the women’s solo event with a time of 61 minutes and 23 seconds. 

The moment has been met with a mixed response. Though some have applauded her dedication and fellow athletes argued she “did what needed to be done”, others have questioned if a HYROX competition is “really that deep.”

“HYROX is a glorified PE day. It’s never that serious,” one person said on Twitter, as another echoed, “This should result in a hard stop for the competitor because the public health risk is more important than the medal. Hyrox has way too many shared touch points and surfaces to let this continue.”

Hyrox apologised in a lengthy statement, but it also condemned people slamming Joanna and her bowel movements.

Amidst the controversy, which is forcing HYROX to make changes to future competitions, Joanna Wietrzyk posted a rather witty response to the whole poo situation. 

In a now-deleted Instagram story, which showed her attatched to an IV drip, she wrote: “Go hard or go home … a win is a win. In all seriousness, thank you for all the support. I’ll be back soon x.”
