Attention! The Glasgow Tab needs new writers, and we want you

We’re meeting at JMS on Wednesday and you’re invited

Are you a writer? A TikTok aficionado? Or simply someone looking for an excuse for a midweek pint?

If you answer yes to any of those questions, then the Glasgow Tab is for you! And you’re in luck – we’re recruiting new talent ahead of the academic year.

Come along to our open meeting at JMS 550 Seminar Room on next Wednesday 16th September at 4pm to meet our lovely team (if we do say so ourselves), have a chat and maybe grab some pitches while you’re at it. And of course, no experience needed, just audacity!

So, what is the Glasgow Tab?

The Glasgow Tab is our city’s news source for students, by students. As one of the nearly 30 uni-cities part of the Tab network, we are the go-to platform for all things uni life.

Content can take the form of local news, fun features, rankings, TikTok vlogs… the list goes on. So whether you’re into writing hard-hitting investigations or filming interviews in smoking areas (shameless plug), the Glasgow Tab definitely has something for you.

Why should I join?

Look, we know why you’re here. As much fun as we have over here at the Glasgow Tab, we’ve got to be honest: the CV benefits are just as sweet.

If you’re wanting to have your writing published, or try your hand at content creation, the Tab is here to help. Bonus, we’re all students, so we understand the stress that can come with uni life. Working with us is super flexible, and you can contribute as much or as little as you’d like.

What makes us different to any other news site on campus? Well, The Tab is a national news site with over nine million monthly readers. Real, professional journalists will be paying attention to your work with The Glasgow Tab, and with opportunities in the organisation ranging from summer internships to grad schemes, that’s pretty exciting stuff.

What’s more, Tab graduates have gone on to work for The Times, The Guardian, Vogue, Buzzfeed and a whole host of other international outlets: If you’re wanting to build a career in media, The Tab is clearly a great place to start. Though having said that, writing, editing, and research skills look amazing on just about any job application.

But beyond the career stuff (god help us), we of course love a drink, a chat, and making new connections. With weekly meetings and stellar socials across the year, The Glasgow Tab is a great way to meet new people while honing a new skill. What’s not to love?

How do I get involved?

Folks from all Glasgow universities are welcome to come to our open meeting next Wednesday at JMS room 550 at 4pm to meet the editors and grab some pitches.

No prior experience is needed – The Tab editorial team is all about giving you the support and guidance to get started in student media.

There will of course be article pitches for you to have a go at, but we’ll always encourage you to come along with your own ideas for articles and socials content, too. It’ll also be a great opportunity to get to know the Glasgow Tab team and other writers over that well-earned pint.

If you have any questions, feel free to pop us a DM on Instagram.
