The irritating reason Apple insists on putting charging port on the bottom of the mouse

A tweet has gone viral this week saying that the charging port being at the bottom of the Magic Mouse isn’t a real problem, and it’s caused outrage. People think it’s the most irritating thing, and the reason why it’s there is even more aggravating. 

Ever since it was released, the Magic Mouse that comes with an iMac has always charged from the bottom, which means you can’t use it while it’s charging. 

If you’re right in the middle of doing something on your computer and the mouse dies, you have to plug it in and wait. And the computer is totally unusable. It’s a major design flaw that’s annoyed people for literal years. 

This week, someone posted a photo of the mouse and wrote: “Maturing is realising this is not a real issue.” The post has had more than 6.7 million views, and it’s only made people even more irate.

“Except that I always forget to plug in when I’m done using it for the day so it’s always about to die,” one person said. Another wrote: “Dumb design. There is no argument.”

So why on earth doesn’t Apple just put the charging port on the end, like it is on an iPhone or a keyboard? It’s pretty selfish, really, because it all comes down to the design. 

Basically, if they put the charging port on the end, the whole mouse would have to be thicker, so it would lose its thin, sleek design. A poor reason, if you ask me. 

Their defence is that the charge lasts for a really long time. Around a month to be exact. So you don’t actually have to charge it very often. 

Plus, just two minutes of charging gives you about eight or nine hours of use. So, if it does die while you’re working, you only have to stop for a few minutes. 

Honestly though, that’s not the point. It’s annoying and I’ll die on that hill.
