The six other documentaries that share more details about the Idaho murders than Netflix did

In the lasted addition to the ever-growing list of documentaries, Netflix recently released a series about the Idaho murders case. The three-part show, titled The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare, explained the case and the timeline of events.

The horror quadruple murder happened in a house on King Road, Moscow, Idaho. Four students, Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle, were found brutally killed there. Bryan Kohberger, a Washington State University PhD student who lived 15 minutes away from the crime scene, was then charged.

But, this isn’t the only time the case has been explored on TV. Here’s a rundown of other documentaries there have been about the Idaho murders case.

One Night in Idaho: The College Murders

One Night in Idaho: The College Murders is available on Prime Video, and is a four-part series. In this series, the parents of Ethan Chapin and Madison Mogen gave their first interviews.

This series is very different to some of the others, as it was filmed before Bryan Kohberger had given his initial guilty plea, so it focuses much more on the investigation, and the local community.

The Idaho Student Murders

The Idaho Student Murders is a 90-minute film, released by Peacock. It is also available on Disney+. It examines the pre-trial case and investigation into the 2022 case.

The description adds the film “focuses its lens on the pre-trial case against Bryan Kohberger, a young criminology student accused of brutally stabbing to death four University of Idaho coeds. Could Kohberger have been a serial killer in the making, a man who hates women, or is there enough evidence to exonerate him altogether? The documentary features never before seen interviews with Kaylee Goncalves’ brother and friends of the victims.”

Zara McDermott: The Idaho Murders – Trial by TikTok

Zara McDermott also took a look at what happened, for the BBC. She headed to the US to tell the story of the case, with a focus on the global manhunt that then followed.

The Idaho College Murders

The Idaho College Murders is probably the most well known show about the murders, released by Apple TV. This is a 2023 true crime documentary release, running at 43 minutes. It features criminal experts exploring theories behind the tragedy.

The synopsis reads: “The brutal murders of four University of Idaho students shook the small town of Moscow, Idaho. Now, investigative journalists and some of the nations top criminal minds explore new theories to answer the one question everyone wants to know – why?”

The Idaho Murders: A College Town Nightmare

Apple TV wasn’t done there, and has just released two further, feature length episodes about the case. The show is called The Idaho Murders: A College Town Nightmare, which is very similar to the name of the Netflix series, and it was also released at pretty much the same time.

This series revisits the crime, the investigation, and its lasting impact, uncovering new insights into how such a tragedy could happen in an unassuming and ordinary college town.

#Cybersleuths: The Idaho Murders

#Cybersleuths: The Idaho Murders is a three-parter, created by Paramount. “This series follows a dynamic group of amateur TikTok detectives, led by #chroniclesofolivia, in their attempt to separate rumour from fact while examining police statements and hunting for digital clues,” the synopsis reads.

Obviously, the very different element of this is the lens it is told from. It focuses much more on the “TikTok detective” element of this case.
