The truth of why Nelly didn’t meet Steven’s family on MAFS, and we should all blame producers

Steven didn’t introduce Nelly to his kids on MAFS UK season 10, and while you could take that as a damning statement about the state of their relationship, he has since explained himself.

In-laws week always makes for a gripping portion of the MAFS experiment, but in the case of Nelly and Steven, it was crickets. Considering they started off so strong in the experiment and then took a nosedive in more recent episodes, I think we were all eager to see more of Steven’s family alongside Nelly’s siblings.

Posting a four-minute TikTok about the episode, Steven said: “The reason for that is because I, that week, saw my kids. I also saw the kids’ mum as well. For me, it’s a big question mark. When is the right time to introduce someone new to your children? For me, given the stage where we were in the process, there was still very much a stranger element to Nelly and I getting to know one other.”

After introducing his girlfriend to his kids way too early in an earlier relationship, Steven and Nelly had a conversation about it being “too early” in their romantic connection. He “never ruled it out in the future”, but it “wasn’t the right time” because they had just come off a bad week.

“She accepted, gracefully. She fully understood. As we’ve seen from Nelly so far, she’s a very gracious person,” he added.

Okay, but MAFS’ Steven could have introduced Nelly to other family members?

A lot of people in the comments pointed out that Steven could have introduced Nelly to other members of his family, or even friends, during the MAFS episode. We saw that with a few of the other couples.

Though Steven did emphasise that he’s not “blaming production”, I definitely am. We’ve seen it time and time again this season. These key moments, whether they be arguments or juicy gossip, are happening off-camera. Though it’s not reasonable to assume that everything will be shown, surely getting friends or family in for in-laws week is a basic requirement?

Though we didn’t get to see Nelly interacting with Steven’s family on the show, he did reveal a meet-cute on Instagram between his wife and his sister. They seemed to meet up at a football game, which is great, but why have I got to go to Instagram to get a full picture of the relationship?

Do better, production, do better.
