Fortnite removes Peacemaker emote from game for Nazi imagery after a big reveal in TV show

An official Fortnite statement has been released informing of the removal of their collaborative emote Peaceful Hips – released in collaboration with DC and the new season of the TV show Peacemaker. Why? Because it has emerged that the arms in the emote is allegedly Nazi imagery. Peacemaker as a TV show has a lot of silly dance intros, and the Peaceful Hips emote was taken from the first few moments of season two. But as a big reveal in Peacemaker came about, Fortnite removed the emote from the game after it seemed like it could be a reference to a swastika / Nazi imagery.

This isn’t some overly cautious action on Fortnite’s part

Spoilers for Peacemaker season two ahead – but in episode six of the new season the world Peacemaker finds himself in is revealed to be an all-white parallel universe where the Nazis won World War II. It is revealed that in this version of America in the episode, the stars on the flag of the United States have been replaced with a swastika.

The dance move itself and the reveal in the episode had people thinking that the dance John Cena did in the earlier episode was foreshadowing the Peacemaker Nazi twist. The dance also is very similar to one Donald Duck did in an anti-Nazi short film back in the day.

Because of all this discussion, Fortnite disabled the Peacemaker emote and released a statement as why it made the decision. The Fortnite official social media account said “As we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days.”

James Gunn is yet to confirm if this specific dance was put in to foreshadow the Earth-X being ruled by Nazis twist – but it doe feel like Fortnite had no clue that twist was coming when the game approved the Peacemaker emote and skin collab.
