Liverpool has once again been transformed into Gotham City for filming of new DC film

Could the Liver Building make it into the DCU for a second time?

Once again, Liverpool has been transformed into Gotham City as filming kicks off for a new DC Studios movie, Clayface.

Liverpoodlians have been flocking to TikTok to share exciting glimpses of the city’s dystopian transformation, with taxis and props all being used to set the scene.

James Watkins, an English director, commenced shooting in Derby Square, Liverpool this Sunday. The city became the backdrop for the eagerly anticipated Clayface, an addition to DC’s Batman cinematic universe.

Onlookers have spotted police cars with Gotham city number plates stationed outside a mocked up hospital entrance. Extras paraded the city streets outside a Gotham City Broadcasting Channel building, immersing pedestrians into the world of the upcoming film.

Clips from TikTok show glimpses of the shutdown areas. North John Street is seen with signs pointing to Gotham Docks and Georges Dock Building is seen flying an American flag above its entrance.

This will be the second time Liverpool has been transformed into Gotham. In 2020, Robert Pattinson was spotted in character brooding around the steps and columns of St George’s Hall.

Though little is known about the film so far, it is set to star the Welsh talent Tom Rhys Harries, 32, famous for his role in the TV drama White Lines.

It is expected to fall into the same universe as 2022’s blockbuster The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson.

The early synopsis suggests the film will be a body horror about a promising actor who goes to desperate lengths to modify himself after his face is brutally disfigured by a gangster.

Harries’ character injects himself with a drug that keeps him relevant, yet finds it not only allows him to fix his face but also modify his body like a malleable clay.

The villain first appeared in the Batman comic book series in 1940, and has been an adversary of the anti-hero ever since.
