Paul Doyle denies all charges after a car struck 134 people in May

A man accused of driving into a crowd of people during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade has pleaded not guilty to 31 offences.

Paul Doyle was originally charged with seven offences, but a further 24 charges were added after a hearing last month.

He plead not guilty to all offences against him, Sky News reports.

Over 134 people were injured when a Ford Galaxy drove into pedestrians celebrating Liverpool FC’s title win on May 26th.

27 people were initially taken to hospital but the total number of people injured rose to 47. Those injured ranged from six months to 77-years-old, however there were no casualties.

The 53-year-old suspect Paul Doyle was arrested at the scene and taken into custody on the evening of May 26th.

He appeared in court for the first time on May 30th, where he was said to have “held back tears”. The accused attended court again today, September 4th, and pleaded not guilty to all 31 offences he currently faces.

One eyewitness of the Liverpool victory parade crash, Natasha Rinaldi, said she was watching the parade from her friend’s living room window when “we heard some screams”.

“It was so loud. People sounded desperate. And then we looked at the window and we saw the car [had] run over people,” she told Sky News.

She added: “Then people started rushing to go after the driver and they tried to break the car. The police did everything to block and to push people away.

“We could just hear screams and screams. We were very confused. Some of my friends were down there and the car was so near them. It was a horrible scene, nobody was expecting it.”

Before the incident, fans of Liverpool FC had been following the parade throughout the day as the team bus has travelled from Allerton Road to the Royal Albert Dock in celebration of the club winning the Premier League title this season.

Merseyside Police reported that the driver was seen travelling along Water Street before colliding with a large number of pedestrians in the area.

In footage widely circulated online, spectators can be seen scattering as the car drives directly into pedestrians. A number of pedestrians are pushed onto the bonnet of the car as it continues to drive forward.

Filming above from a nearby building, those behind the camera who witnessed the Liverpool victory parade crash can be heard saying: “Oh my god, what the f*ck”.

Air ambulance, police and fire rescue were all present at the scene. However, North West Ambulance Service said it cleared the scene at 9:24pm. Authorities released statements at the time, outlining the incident and their immediate response.
