
Named and pictured: Police reveal details of 53-year-old man charged over Liverpool incident
He has been charged with seven different offences
Police have named and pictured the man who has been charged over the Liverpool victory parade incident that took place earlier this week.
Merseyside Police named 53-year-old man Paul Doyle as the suspect in the Liverpool crash. In a press conference, it was confirmed he is from the West Derby area of the city.
The number of injuries has also been updated. Officials have said 79 people were left injured after a car ploughed through crowds. The youngest person was aged just nine years old, while the oldest was 78.
Police have confirmed there are seven charges that Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle faces. They are: Two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and one count of dangerous driving.

The parade began at 2:30pm on Monday afternoon. It was to celebrate Liverpool FC’s Premier League win, and it has been estimated around a million people may have been in attendance. Authorities were later alerted to the incident at 6.07pm on Monday. It was first reported as a “car crash” involving a “number of pedestrians” on Water Street.
At around 8pm, the 53-year-old white British man was arrested. At the time, assistant chief constable Jenny Sims spoke out about the incident. She called it “horrific” and confirmed it had been declared a major incident. It has not been treated as a terror incident.
