
53-year-old man arrested after car hits crowd of people during Liverpool FC victory parade

A 53-year-old man has been detained and arrested by Merseyside Police this evening after a collision between a car and multiple pedestrians during Liverpool Football Club’s title parade.
Emergency services swarmed to the scene on Water Street just after 6pm today following reports of a car driving through crowds of people celebrating the football club’s league victory.
In a recent statement about the incident involving a car in Liverpool, the Northwest Ambulance Service said that it was “currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services.”
“Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible” the statement added.
Air ambulance, police and fire rescue are all present at the scene, with BBC claiming to have seen three injured people being taken away.
Fans of Liverpool FC have been following the parade throughout the day as the team bus has travelled from Allerton Road to the Royal Albert Dock in celebration of the club winning the Premier League title this season.
Merseyside Police have reported that the unnamed driver was seen travelling along Water Street before colliding with a large number of pedestrians in the area.
In footage widely circulating online, spectators can be seen scattering as a car drives directly into pedestrians. A number of pedestrians are pushed onto the bonnet of the car as it continues to drive forward.
Filming above from an nearby building, those behind the camera can be heard saying “Oh my god, what the f*ck”.
A number of pedestrians then swarm around the car as it begins to slow and eventually stops on the scene.
Eyewitnesses have reported hearing “screams” during the incident.

A police spokesperson said about the Liverpool car incident: “We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.
“We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.
“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.
“Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them.”
It is not yet known if anyone is injured.
