A creepy ‘message from the 1980s’ has gone viral, and it’s like something from Black Mirror
‘Come back, we miss you’ – erm, no?
In what has been dubbed everything from “boomer propaganda” to “completely delusional slop”, a message from the 1980s has gone viral on Twitter.
Originally posted by internet personality Brian Roemmele, the beyond creepy video was captioned: “A message from the 1980s: ‘You know the 80s miss you, right?”
The viral video itself was AI-generated, which should already tell you everything you need to know about the quality of the clip. It showed a bunch of nostalgic-looking teens, all white, because it’s AI garbage, talking about how great the 1980s were.
“You know the ’80s miss you, right?” one teen, with a quintessentially ’80s haircut said. “Let me guess, no one even talks face to face anymore?”
The video continued to detail why the 1980s were apparently a utopian paradise, including: The world feeling real, mixtapes, Friday night diners, and cruising in your friend’s Camaro. In contrast, 2025 has “no block parties”, and everyone is just “staring at their phones.”

“Out here, time doesn’t race; it breathes,” another teen added. “If you’ve forgotten that, maybe that’s why the ’80s are calling you back.
Look, rampant nostalgia for a so-called “better time” is nothing new – just ask your parents or the droves of boomers on Facebook who constantly whine about days since passed. It’s almost like they’re totally forgetting that the 1980s were not the Garden of Eden, or the fact that their own parents said the exact same things about the 1960s, ’50s, and so on. In fact, if we go back far enough, I bet there were at least a few Romans longing for the Carthaginian Empire.

But simply put, it’s so silly. Yes, the 1980s were a super vibey time, but it was also the era of the AIDS crisis, the Cold War, the Tiananmen Square Massacre, increased gun violence and drug use, and Chernobyl. That’s to say nothing of the rampant misogyny, homophobia, and racism. Need I say more?

People have been reacting to ‘You know the 80s miss you, right?’
Though some boomers in the comments seemed to long for those “simpler times”, most people saw the message from the 1980s for what it was: Super f**king creepy.
“I don’t love sharing AI, but I’m baffled by what the message is supposed to be here. ‘Come back, we miss you’ is so sinister. Are people supposed to kill themselves and hope the other side is White 80s?” one person wrote.
Nostalgia is the highest form of delusion. If something can end then it's existence was completely empty and devoid of meaning. https://t.co/4oE5N4M9T1

Another said: “Stop this sh*t. This is the most annoying psyop among psyops I’ve ever seen. Grow up and come back to reality. Stop trying to be an eternal child stuck in the past.”
“No truer manifestation of nostalgia than nostalgia for an imagined past that never existed,” someone else pointed out.
