What happens when you get eliminated on Drag Race, from queens who actually have been

‘All the other queens wait in silence for what feels like hours’

What happens when queens on RuPaul’s Drag Race get eliminated and told to sashay away? Well, all we know is what we see from the magic of television – aka, a very edited down and streamlined version of events. We see the queens hear the result of the lip sync, where RuPaul declares one to chantay and the other to sashay away – aka, you’ve been eliminated from Drag Race. The queen then says her exit line and walks off, but what actually happens that we don’t see after queens get eliminated from Drag Race?

Well, thankfully we can all thank Trixie Mattel for spilling tea on this – amongst everything else we need to thank her for. Trixie and Katya have been in the midst of their Drag Race season seven rewatch and it’s bee incredibly insightful for any big fan of the show – and Trixie just went into some good detail about what happens when you get eliminated from Drag Race behind the scenes.

‘Feels like forever’

In the latest episode of the absolutely amazing series Trixie and Katya are doing on their The Bald and the Beautiful series, the pair have finally got up to the episode where Trixie Mattel gets eliminated. A weird concept thinking of literally Trixie Mattel getting eliminated so early, especially because she obviously went on to win All Stars 3 and then became one of the most famous drag queens ever – but it literally happened back in season seven guys!

“When you get eliminated… you leave, [the producers] take you [off], while all the other drag queens wait behind the Main Stage in silence in what feels like hours,” Trixie shared. Katya agreed, saying “FOREVER. I forgot about that.”

“So everyone who’s safe sits [behind the Main Stage], one person has won, one person has just gone home, and the story producers stand there with cattle prods, because they’re like, ‘Don’t spill the tea without the cameras.’” NB: the cattle prod reference is definitely a joke for any overly concerned readers.

“Which, by the way, is what I would do,” she said. “I would slap people and say: ‘Don’t f**king talk about that till we get the cameras up.’

“So [the producers] make everyone wait, they take you to a room, you’re still in drag. I think they let you get out of makeup, and they sit you down and go: ‘You did a great job.’

“I remember they went: ‘Four episodes? That’s a month of television. You’re going to be on TV for four weeks. Plus, you get to come back for a reunion.’ They were telling me very true stuff. Thairin [one of the show’s producers] said: ‘You’re forever a Drag Race girl, and you can do anything with this, and it’s not a big deal. Someone went home yesterday, someone goes home tomorrow.’”

I love that you get sent home and the producers try and make you feel amazing, tbh.
