In a truly bizarre turn of events, it is being discussed online how after a deep dive into his family tree by The New York Times – Pope Leo is reportedly related to a string of big celebrity names including Madonna, Justin Bieber and Angelina Jolie. No, we are not making this up. It’s a truly bizarre turn of events but one that’s gagged the pop culture world. Madonna even shared the news on her Instagram story, and knowing her past beef with the Catholic Church you know she’s absolutely revelling in it. Here’s what we know about the celebs Pope Leo is reportedly related to.

The deep dive produced wild results 

The New York Times published an interactive scroll through Pope Leo XIV‘s ancestry, in collaboration with genealogists at American Ancestors and the Cuban Genealogy Club of Miami

.“Through one Canadian ancestor, Louis Boucher de Grandpre, who was born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, the pope is related to numerous Canadian-derived distant cousins, including Pierre and Justin Trudeau, Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Justin Bieber, Jack Kerouac and Madonna,” the New York Times report declared.

The link to Madonna is obviously hilarious – she’s always pushed boundaries using Catholic imagery in her art. We’ve all been gobsmacked at the Like A Prayer video, haven’t we! She’s actually been ex-communicated by the Vatican three times, after all. A few years back she tweeted Pope Francis trying to arrange a meeting, saying the pair should “meet up one day to discuss some important matters,” adding, “I’ve been ex communicated 3 times. It doesn’t seem fair.”

She also said “I like the new pope. He seems very open-minded. I’ve been excommunicated from the Catholic Church three times. It shows the Vatican cares deeply.”

The other celebrities are all connected via “Canadian derived distant cousins”. These include of course Justin Bieber, Angelina Jolie, politician and almost president Hillary Clinton as well as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his father Pierre. American writer and poet Jack Kerouac is also reportedly one of the celebs related to Pope Leo.
