Instagram has added another feature that nobody asked for but are likely quite glad it landed – you can now link your Spotify directly and show everyone what you’re streaming to in real time. You can already share songs from Spotify to your Instagram story, and there’s another feature that lets you have a featured song from Spotify show on your profile like we’re in those halcyon MySpace days again. But this new addition lets you basically have that feature from Spotify Web that shows everyone and your friends what you’re listening to in the side bar directly on your Instagram. And it slaps – if you’ve got nothing to hide. None of my pleasures are guilty, friends.

This new feature WILL expose you

You know that random bit of Instagram that lets you add a little message above DMs? It can only be seen by those that follow you’d you follow back, but most people use it to announce a new post or just to put an emoji of support for a worthwhile cause if anything. You’ve always been able to share a song to it too, in the same way as you would on your story. It also shows as a little bubble if anyone is on your grid.

The new Spotify and Instagram link up feature however lets you stream directly whatever you’ve got playing on Spotify directly to Insta. You do this by going to add a note in the usual way, and when you see the pop up for music click on it. You’ll be able to see at the top an option to link Spotify.

You’ll then get asked to connect the two accounts and have to approve that and give your permission to what you’re happy being shared. From then on you can press the button whenever you wish to share your streaming habits, and the music will be shared for 24 hours consecutively – or stop when you’ve paused the music for over 30 minutes.
