242 people were on board
An Air India plane that was bound for Gatwick crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad in western India. 242 people were on board. Ahmedabad’s police chief says 204 bodies have been recovered, and at least 41 people were injured. We don’t know how many of these people were travelling on the plane, or how many were on the ground as the plane crashed. Photos and video footage show the Air India plane right before this terrible event, and the wreckage after the crash.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane took off from Ahmedabad Airport. The final signal from the plane was received less than a minute after takeoff. Video footages shows the Air India plane flying very low over a residential area. The wheels appear to still be down, as the plane has just taken off. There was an explosion when the plane collided with the ground.
The plane was carrying 242 passengers in total.
