Bournemouth students’ events raise almost £3,000 for charity

‘To absolutely smash this target was incredible and we are beyond proud of our efforts’

Events organised by Bournemouth students have raised nearly £3,000 for charity.

Seven teams hosted charity events on and off campus, ranging from a belly dancing workshop to a quiz night, raffle and a yoga and wellbeing event.

Maddie Morter’s team “Planorama” put on an auction night, which raised over £1,000 for the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF).

Their team aimed to make £500 from their auction. Maddie told The Bournemouth Tab: “To absolutely smash this target was incredible and we are beyond proud of our efforts.”

Adding: “The event was in the making for months, so it was an absolute joy to finally see our hard work in the flesh.”

Four out of the seven teams chose to fundraise for the DCCF. Juliet Willman’s yoga and wellbeing event also raised over £1,000 for the charity.

The students considered the wider positive impact of their events. Maddie shared: “It’s nice to know we have helped the DCCF make more of a name for themselves amongst the Bournemouth community.”

She added: “All those people who are going to receive help thanks to the funds we raised warm our hearts.”

The Dorset Cancer Care Foundation also expressed gratitude for the donations from these events. Eve Went, co-founder of DCCF, said: “We were thrilled to learn we had again been chosen to benefit from the students’ work.”

Team from the events management course have chosen to support DCCF for four years in a row, and Eve said the events are always “imaginative” and “popular”.

The Planorama team also received lots of positive feedback from attendees. Maddie said: “Many commented on their love of the hosts, the vibes, and the auction prizes.”
