The brutal reason Sabrina Carpenter wasn’t allowed to wear pants to the Met Gala
At least not wearing pants gave her one advantage
Sabrina Carpenter has been to the Met Gala three times in recent years, the first coming in 2022 when she sported a golden goddess ensemble from Paco Rabanne for the gala’s In America: An Anthology of Fashion theme. She took a break in 2023, but returned in 2024 with Barry Keoghan as the ultimate fashionable accessory.
Though she and Barry attended the event separately this year, Sabrina turned heads in a burgundy bodysuit for the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme. Designed by Louis Vuitton’s menswear creative director Pharrell Williams, the burgundy, tuxedo-style look featured sparkly buttons, a starkly white collar, lots of jewellery, and some chunky matching heels.
People on Twitter soon noticed a hilarious theme amongst Pharrell’s Met Gala muses: Literally none of them were wearing pants.

Sabrina Carpenter was one of the dozens of celebrities who strutted their stuff on the Met Gala’s blue carpet on Monday. While her outfit was the right amount of cheeky we’ve come to expect from her, she wasn’t allowed to wear pants for one very brutal reason.
“I’m such a massive fan of Pharrell’s and have been to the show, and I was just like, ‘If I could go this year with him, that would be my dream.’ And it came true,” she told Vogue on the blue carpet.
People dressed by Louis Vuitton, which included Blackpink’s Lisa, were pictured with very similar silhouttes, but specifically, Sabrina was banned from wearing pants because of her height.
“He was like, ‘You’re quite short, so no pants for you.’ So here we are. Here we are,” she added.

Though she might have had chilly legs in the brutal New York City air, the lack of pants actually aided Sabrina Carpenter in one area that is usually secondary to standout fashion choices at the Met Gala.
“Never been to the bathroom once because I’ve never been able to use it in my outfit. So tonight might be the night,” Sabrina joked. “We’ll see… And I’m just gonna let everybody know what it looks like. I’m sure it’s just a normal museum bathroom, but I’m excited to find out.”
She might not have been tall enough to warrant trousers, but at least the girl could go to the toilet throughout the night! You win some, you lose some.
