This eerie hidden detail in Black Mirror’s Bête Noire should have made the ending obvious

Need to go back and rewatch right now

People have pointed out an eerie detail in new Black Mirror episode Bête Noire that we definitely all missed. Plus, it’s going to make you kick yourself that you didn’t predict the whole plot right from the start.

In Bête Noire, Maria is a high-flying development executive at a chocolate company. At first, everything is going well for her but then someone she hasn’t seen since school shows up for a focus group tasting session. From there onwards, things get very Black Mirror.

We get to know Verity, who knew Maria from school. It’s very clear Verity has a problem with Maria, and in a twisted gaslighting way, is managing to make her entire workforce think she’s losing her mind and messing up all the time. Before long, Maria has lost her job and her life is spiralling.

Right at the end, we learn Verity’s motives. She was isolated at school, and wants revenge on everyone who ever made her feel that way. She’s used her wild knowledge to create a way to adjust reality, and has been using it against Maria. Prior to hunting down Maria though, she’d done the same to someone else from school. And it ended in them jumping from a bridge, and losing their life.

But, we were told all about this at the start. We definitely should have known Verity wanted blood, and had done this before. Someone on Reddit has pointed out a key detail from the beginning of the episode we all missed.

“When the episode begins there is radio in the background saying ‘a woman who jumped from the roof of a multi-storey building in Camberwell has been pronounced dead’,” the OP said. “I’m pretty sure that is about the main character’s old school pal.”

Black Mirror is ALWAYS one step ahead. People in the comments have noticed how we all missed the detail. “Excellent catch! I didn’t even think about that until now!,” one person said. Another added: “Yes excellent. A lot of Easter eggs I am finding and I am watching it right now.”
