He was arrested and charged with murdering seven women in 2023

Netflix’s latest crime documentary Gone Girls is about the Long Island serial killer, and suspect Rex Heuermann has been charged with murdering seven women.

The murders went unsolved for years, but the 59-year-old was arrested in July 2023 and is being held in a New York jail while the trial takes place.

Huermann lived with his family in Massapequa Park for many years, but where are they now? Here’s everything you need to know about his wife and kids.

Who is Rex Heuermann’s wife?

The Long Island serial killer suspect’s wife is a woman named Asa Ellerup, who is originally from Iceland, and they got married in 1996.

She filed for divorce from Rex after he was arrested in 2023, but has still attended many of his court hearings.

Her attorney Robert Macedonio told Newsweek that she “maintains the belief that her estranged husband is not capable of committing these heinous acts”.

How many kids do they have?

They have one daughter together, Victoria Heuermann. Asa also has a son called Christopher Sheridan from a previous marriage, who is Rex’s stepson.

Victoria is now 28 and graduated from the New York Institute of Technology with a degree in fine arts. She worked at her father’s architecture firm before his arrest.

Christopher is 35 and has developmental disabilities. His mother told the New York Post in 2023: “My son has developmental disabilities and he cries himself to sleep.”

What are his family doing now?

Asa and the two kids still live in the Massapequa Park home where Rex lived with them, and they plan to stay there until at least the end of the trial, attorney Ves Mitey told Newsweek.

“They’re two young adults that are caught in the crosshairs of this deeply unfortunate case that they have nothing to do with other than they are related to Mr. Heuermann,” he said about the kids.

The lawyer said it’s currently a “very very dark time in their lives” and “they look forward to the legal process running its course, whatever that course is”.
