As of now, Rex Heuermann is awaiting trial. He is currently being held without bail at the Riverhead Correctional Facility, in Suffolk County. His case is in the preliminary stages, but according to CBS News, a special hearing was scheduled for March 28th to determine whether DNA evidence would be admissible in court.
Speaking of Heuermann’s life in prison, Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon Jr. told People: “For the most part, it just seems like this is a new way of life for [Heuermann]. In the beginning he was a little bit more starry-eyed as to his surroundings. Life has transformed over the last several months. He receives visits, he makes phone calls and he doesn’t congregate with the rest of the population because of the crimes he’s accused of.”
Heuermann has reportedly been “compliant” and hasn’t caused “any issues”. He’s said to spend his days reading books and articles about his discovery, as well as watching TV.
A week after his arrest, Heuermann’s wife is said to have filed for divorce, which was finalised on March 28th.
