Robert Irwin has been crowned the internet’s boyfriend this week after posing in his underwear alongside his giant snake – there were other animals too, but I can’t make a pun out of monitor lizards. The thirst is real, and the power of a hot guy and a baby animal has never been more clear.

The 21-year-old is perhaps the only nepo baby we truly appreciate; after all, his father was the legend Steve Irwin who tragically died after being stabbed in the heart by a stingray in 2006. His kids have very much followed in his footsteps, dedicating their lives to animals and conservation, but now Robert has gone in another direction with a strikingly cheeky photoshoot.

Posing in Bonds underwear, an Australian brand he is helping break into the US market, Robert spoke to PEOPLE about his father’s legacy, his love life, and his close family bond. It’s reasonable to say he’s now got a lot more followers, and his comment section is now brimming with marriage proposals.

Rober Irwin’s first official girlfriend was a huge nepo baby

From November 2022 to February 2024, Robert Irwin’s girlfriend was noneother than Heath Ledger’s niece, Rorie Buckey. They were often pictured enjoying low-key dates in Australia, but they made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. A month later, in August 2023, they went Instagram official with a slew of candid photos.

Unfortunately, in February 2024 they announced their breakup with a joint statement on Instagram.

Robert Irwin doesn’t have a lengthy relationship history

Though he never publically talked about the relationship, the MailOnline reported that Robert Irwin’s girlfriend last year was a fellow staff member at Australia Zoo. Robert and Charlotte Briggs were first linked in July 2024 when spotted out in Sydney together, and while sources did say they were prepping an official announcement, that fell through following his stint on I’m A Celeb Australia.

“I am pretty sure that everyone on the set of I’m A Celebrity noticed Robert was acting more single as the shoot went on,” a source told the publication as a friend of Charlotte’s added, “The time apart was proof [Robert] isn’t ready for a full-blown relationship and things are only getting more hectic for the host.”

The romance reportedly ended in February 2024.

Does Robert Irwin currently have a girlfriend?

In the same interview with PEOPLE, Robert Irwin revealed that he is currently single despite now being inundated with eager people on Instagram and Twitter.

“I don’t!” he said. “I’m single. It’s funny, I’m at this point in my life where I’m like, I’m so open to that, but I’m just waiting for the stars to align.”

Robert is very much a single pringle who is ready to mingle, but unfortunately, unless you’re an American tourist your chances of dating the nepo baby are looking pretty slim.

“Interestingly, my parents, my sister Bindi met her husband [Chandler Powell] here — everyone met here at our wildlife sanctuary,” he said.

“In both instances, there were American tourists that were coming over and visiting the zoo. So I’m waiting. I’m waiting for that American tourist to come into the zoo and for it all to happen!

“I look at the couple goals in my life. I look at when my brother-in-law Chandler and my sister Bindi met, it was just meant to be. And when my mom and dad met, it was this crazy serendipitous, amazing moment that just was a fluke.”
