Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall surprises Leeds Student Radio
Jade revealed her favourite Leeds night out
Earlier this month, the Little Mix pop star, Jade Thirlwall, surprised students on Leeds Student Radio.
This unexpected moment was organised by BBC Radio 1’s host, Greg James, as he merged the national broadcast with Leeds Student Radio’s breakfast show at LSR.
Amy Heeley, Head of Breakfast at Leeds Student Radio, had previously reached out to the Radio 1 team to participate in their “Yesterday’s Quiz” segment.
Reflecting on the experience, Amy said: “The Radio 1 team hinted at doing something fun and crashing our Friday Breakfast show on LSR, and we were super excited to see what they had planned!”
The simulcast began with Greg James calling into the LSR studio, catching the student presenters off guard.
He then introduced Jade Thirlwall, leading to an impromptu interview where the LSR team posed lighthearted questions to the British pop star.
Amy recalled: “We started our show and got a call from Greg, and you know the rest! We got surprised with Jade Thirlwall and asked her the all-important questions like what she had for breakfast and what her morning alarm is.”
The Leeds students asked about Jade’s dream venues to play in to which Jade responded, Big Weekend, “obviously”, and added that Glastonbury will also be amazing.

LSR encouraged Jade to come to Leeds, prompting her to admit that she loves a Leeds night out, adding that her go-to is “any gay bar basically.”
Amy expressed gratitude sharing: “I’d love to continue this collaboration, and we’re so thankful at LSR for the Radio 1 team for giving us this opportunity and being so supportive.”
