Here’s a definitive guide to the 10 best places in Lincoln for studying

We know that dissertation won’t write itself

Submission season is fast approaching, it’s time to stop procrastinating and hit the books.

So, to help you get motivated, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite Lincoln study spots. Whether you’re looking for a quiet study spot or the perfect coffee to keep you going, we’ve got you covered.

1. University Library

Take advantage of what the university is offering: a quiet place to study at any time of day. The library is the best place to work, especially when other people are busy working around you. The books you need are within reach and the library staff can help answer your questions.

Tip: Go to the silent floor to force yourself to get your head down and work.

2. City Library

Not only is this library a five minute walk from campus, it can also provide a refreshing change from Lincoln Uni after a day of lectures.

The library has a quiet study area and is a very chill space to work in the city. The librarians are really helpful and you might even find some useful books in there.

If you don’t already have one, sign up for a library card. Ask a librarian and you can get one sorted in under five minutes.

3. Uni buildings

I mean, it’s what they’re here for, right?

If you have some time after or in between lectures, you should use the buildings at your fingertips to study. Take a seat in Minerva and enjoy the canteen atmosphere, high ceilings, and daylight – Minerva also has a nice café. You can also find study spaces in ATB or DCB.

Book out a seminar room to focus in a quiet space, you might even convince a few friends to study with you.

4. Students’ Union

Some of us can’t study in a library, and that’s okay, we all work differently. So, if that’s you, head to the SU.

The Swan and Towers are great places to study and close to campus. The prices are student-friendly and we are can guarantee you will find some other struggling students in the same situation.

5. Caffe Nero

This is one of our favourite places to study, it can be slightly busy but the aesthetic is perfect. Download the Caffe Nero app and connect your student ID so that you can get a nice coffee at a student price.

6. Coffee Depot

Just off campus, with a student discount and an amazing menu. This is a top spot to study and offers a cosy but bustling atmosphere that might be perfect for you to work.

7. 200 Degrees

Studying in a place where other people are studying is always a boost for motivation. This coffee shop is great, spacious and worker friendly.

8. Waterstones Café

Is there a better place to study than surrounded by books and coffee? We don’t think so!

9. The train

This is often more of a necessity than a choice. We can’t be wasting hours not working but I find the train can be where I have my most productive study hours. It’s not like you can just escape from being there, you’re literally forced to do something unless you want to stare out the window, so why not make that uni work?

Also, working on the train always makes us feel some aesthetic kind of way. It makes us feel like we are the main character in a movie, and the main character always pulls through with their work so you should too. Make everyone on that train wish they were as productive as you.

10. Your bedroom

I mean, kind of an obvious one but we had to include it, I mean the fridge is close, you have your bathroom nearby and you’re already paying for the wifi, so why not work from home?

Maybe you are one of those people that can be productive at home, so utilise your space and get your work done. Sometimes what you need is your bed and your pyjamas. But make sure you don’t fall asleep.

This doesn’t apply if you get along with your flatmates (they will be a distraction) or if you find your flatmates extremely annoying (they will force you into a blind rage).
