Here are the best places in Bournemouth to take your Valentine

Love is in the air

The most overly-commercialised day of the year is fast approaching: Valentine’s Day. I remain haunted by memories of seven-year-old me desperately waiting by the door for a Valentine’s card to be posted. At last, one year my dream came true and it is safe to say I was very excited. That was until I realised five years later that the strangely familiar handwriting was in fact my Mum’s…

As someone who has, by the grace of God, finally become “lucky in love”, I am no stranger to the best romantic hotspots in Bournemouth. I will attempt to play Cupid and provide you with my ultimate recommendations for the best Valentine’s Day date with your loved one or a group of pals.

1. El Murrino

El Murrino is the perfect restaurant if you want to re-enact the iconic Lady and The Tramp meatball scene.

They serve authentic Italian dishes and in my opinion make the best pizza (apologies to Domino’s who I have bought at least 30 pizzas from during my time at uni).

With candles and heart balloons that are put up specially to mark the occasion, the atmosphere makes for the ideal Valentine’s restaurant visit. I’m sure it has also resulted in many single passers-by wanting to throw up.

2. Odeon cinema

If you’d rather do something more low-key, then I’d strongly recommend visiting Odeon cinema.

Odeon is screening special Valentine’s classics, such as 10 Things I Hate About You, as well as the new Bridget Jones film, Mad About The Boy.

Help yourself to some popcorn, a Tango Ice Blast, and sit back and relax together.

Who knows, you may even treat yourselves to a cheeky Nando’s.

3. Boom Battle Bar

For the more competitive couples, Boom Battle Bar will make for a super fun date.

The venue offers games such as axe throwing, augmented reality darts, and American pool.

Group bookings are also available if you’d rather go with your mates instead. What’s more, there is a wide selection of alcoholic drinks if you fancy a vodka Coke or two. Please don’t blame me, though, if things get too competitive and result in a near-breakup.

4. All Fired Up

Looking to brag on Instagram about having the cutest Valentine’s Day? Visit All Fired Up, a ceramics café. With over 150 items in stock, you can paint a mug, a piggy bank, and even a spoon. Super cute!

If you haven’t got a Valentine, then do not fear, as dogs are also welcome – let’s be honest, they’re superior to a partner. All Fired Up also offer coffee and sandwiches, so don’t worry about eating in advance.

5. Noodle Bar

I may as well be sponsored by Noodle Bar at this rate. Noodle Bar is quite possibly my favourite place in the world.

They serve the most yummy noodles, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are huge. The interior design is also very aesthetic.

Basically, Noodle Bar is heaven on earth. Its relaxed vibe makes for the ideal chilled Valentine’s dining experience. Don’t be surprised if you see me there…

6. Bournemouth Beach

I have saved the best for last. Free, accessible, tranquil, soothing, beautiful, a haven… It’s Bournemouth Beach!

You would be foolish not to visit. The beach is without a doubt the best bit about Bournemouth; I never cease to be amazed by its breathtaking sunsets. Take a romantic stroll down and breathe in the fresh sea breeze. If you feel like it, you could extend your walk down into Boscombe and back up again. Remember to wrap up warm!

Hopefully I have been of use in helping to make your Valentine’s Day extra special. And if you’re single this year then don’t worry; Valentine’s is overrated anyway!
