Onijah Andrew Robinson, a viral sensation referred to as the American woman in Pakistan on TikTok, is said to finally be returning home to New York City after demanding money from the government to turn Pakistan into a home.

This story begins in October 2024 when Onijah, 33, flew out to Karachi to meet 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon with the intention of marrying. But disaster struck when she landed as Nidal refused to marry her after his family took issue with the relationship. Left stranded in Pakistan, she soon became a local celebrity.

Clips from very press tours and interviews have gone viral on TikTok, amassing millions of views as Onijah is dubbed “icon” and “queen” by her millions of followers. Here’s everything we know about her absolutely bonkers story.

She initially refused to leave his house

After being rejected by the teenager and his family, Onijah camped outside their house for days whilst demanding $3,000 a week and marriage so she could become a Pakistani citizen.

“It has been months now that she has staged a sit-in in the parking lot of the same building her lover used to stay in. NGOs and authorities have offered to arrange her air ticket to the US but she insists on staying back. Instead, she is now demanding $3,000 per week along with a Pakistani citizenship,” a local resident said, according to daijiworld.com.

In another interview, Onijah herself said: “Make sure you get this on your camera, I’m married to Nidal Ahmed Memon, and we are moving to Dubai very soon. We’re going to have our baby in Dubai.”

American citizen Onijah, who is in Pakistan’s Karachi for her lover, has demanded $20,000 – out of the $100,000 – by this week from the government while addressing a press conference alongside charity organisation head Ramzan Chhipa. “My plan is to reconstruct this whole country. I am asking for $100K or more. I need $20K by this week. OK in my pocket and cash OK that’s a demand to the government. The government is going to fix up these buildings, fix up the streets and clean up these streets. It’s ridiculous out here. I do not like it,” Onijah Andrew Robinson said at a press conference alongside charity organisation head Ramzan Chhipa in Karachi. Chhipa described the woman as his “American sister.” But the lady interrupted and claimed that she was from Pakistan. She urged the people to respect the law and God. “I am married to Nidal Ahmed Memon. I am Onijah Ahmed, we are going to move to Dubai very soon,” she said and demanded that Karachi be re-constructed.

Right now, TikTok is brimming with out-of-context videos featuring Onijah at various press conferences she organised to fund money for the community.

“I’m asking for 100K or more. I need 20K by this week, in my pockets, in cash. That’s a demand to the government,” she said in one clip, but it’s worth noting that the amount of money changed with each interview. Sometimes it was as little as 5k. “What’s my plan? To bring this down and build a home.”

When Pakistani activist and YouTuber Zaffar Abbas shed light on her story, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori extended her visa in good faith and offered to fly her back to New York City. She refused both his offer and the offers posed by numerous non-governmental organisations (NGO).

Though The Independent is now reporting that she is set to return to the US, that is yet to be seen.

At the same time, there are now reports that the American woman in Pakistan was held at Karachi’s Jinnah Post Graduate Hospital for a mental health examination, something which her own son Jeremiah Andrew Robinson shed light on.

“Her and Nidal knew each other, like before she went to Pakistan. She was only supposed to go to Pakistan to meet him and his family on just a vacation,” he said, according to News The International. “When it was time for her to come back after the two weeks. I was trying to convince her to come back. She refused. Then Nidal did not deter and she was supposed to return back on January 15, when Nidal had booked her ticket.”

He further claimed that his mother was fighting bipolar disorder and urgently required treatment in the US.

New reports from Dialogue Pakistan suggest Onijah has received another marriage offer from a man in Thatta. This story is not over yet.
