Want to write for us? Here’s why you should join The Cardiff Tab this semester

Honestly, if the T-shirt alone doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will

As the second semester rolls around, so does another opportunity to get involved with Cardiff journalism.

Even though we are always open to new contributing writers, a new term means we are looking for more budding journalists to join the group.

That’s why we are hosting another opening meeting next Monday, 3rd February, at 6pm in The Vulcan. If you are available and interested, please don’t hesitate to come along.

We will discuss all things Tab, from commissions to the style guide — basically, how the Cardiff team operates.

If you need any more persuading, here is a list of reasons why you should write for us:

You can build up your CV

It’s that time of year when everyone, especially upcoming graduates, are worrying about their CV and future career opportunities.

But, it doesn’t matter if you’re a first year or a Master’s student, it’s not too late to get some experience under your belt.

The Tab is a well-recognised company in the journalism industry. So, if you have a good handful of articles on your resumé, you are sure to pick up some very applicable skills for your experience post-university.

Many of ex-Tabbers have gone on to work for media giants such as the BBC, Vogue, The Times, The Telegraph, and even The Tab’s HQ!

You can also get the chance to write for the national site which gets around nine million readers per month, as well as take part in training. All things that are great for your CV!

Not sure what you want to write? Don’t worry, you can basically write about anything

Yes, all articles need to be related to student life, but, we cover stories all across Wales. From Cardiff to Swansea, Bangor to Aberystwyth, The Cardiff Tab is your one-stop place for Welsh student journalism.

As a writer, you can cover anything under features, guides, news and opinion pieces. You might take on an article about the increase in student rent prices, or research all the best concerts and gigs that are coming to Cardiff in the coming months.

Got an original scoop? No worries, we’ve got plenty of experience with that and our HQ Assistant Editor, Charl, can help you bring these pieces to life too.

Whatever it is you want to write, let your editors know and without a doubt we will be able to accommodate your ideas.

Be part of the best team of student journalists

Another motivation for joining The Cardiff Tab should be the ability to meet new, like-minded people.

It doesn’t matter what degree you do, what your further interests are, as long as you are open to working alongside others who have a passion for journalism – this is the place for you.

We also hold weekly meetings, and occasional socials! Also, if you are chosen to be an editor at the end of the year, you’ll be able to experience some fab trips to HQ in London too.

If you have any questions or can’t make the meeting, don’t hesitate to follow us on Instagram and send us a DM.

We hope to see as many of you as possible, next Monday, in The Vulcan Lounge!
