The second season of Squid Game was finally released this week, but why is it so short?!

Everyone was super excited to binge the new episodes, which are set three years after Gi-hun won the Squid Game.

He gives up on going to the United States and decides to re-enter the competition to take down its evil creators.

After a really long wait, people were super disappointed to find there are only seven episodes on Netflix.

The first season had nine episodes, so why are there two less? Here’s everything we know.

Um, why is Squid Game season two so short?!

There are only has seven episodes because the Squid Game director felt like that was a natural end.

Speaking to Deadline, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed: “I wrote seasons two and three at the same time, and we were in production for both simultaneously, and currently we are in the post-production process for season three.”

“When I was writing the script for the two seasons, I felt like there was a big turning point or an inflection point, and that was the end of episode seven, so I thought that it would do it justice to have a separate season after that.”

“That’s why I had the first seven episodes as season two and then the rest of season three.”

So, season two and season three are essentially the same season – they just decided to split it into two parts.

So, when is Squid Game season three coming?

Squid Game season three is confirmed to be arriving in 2025, so you haven’t got long to wait for the next installment.

“We’re going to do our very best to make sure we get season three done as soon as possible so that it can be shown to the viewers,” Hwang told Digital Spy.

“It’s going to be good for [people] to take that short break and wait for season three. It is definitely going to be worth the wait.”

We don’t know the exact release date yet, but filming has finished and it’s going to be the last season of Squid Game.
