Black Doves had an alternate ending – here’s what it was and why it was scrapped

Right now, everyone is hooked on spy drama, Black Doves. The show follows Helen, who is hiding the big secret that she’s an undercover agent. At the start of the show the man she’s been having an affair with, Jason, is killed. The show then goes on to chase his killer. But it turns out, Black Doves had an alternate ending which concluded the drama differently.

In the show, inspired by real events, Helen is out for revenge against whoever killed her lover. She is uncovering the mystery, and it becomes clear Jason’s death was linked to the murder of the Chinese ambassador Chen. Consequently, Helen uncovers the truth during a showdown with London crime boss Alex Clark. We then find out The Clarks were responsible for Chen’s death.

Trent accidentally killed the ambassador, who was the father of his girlfriend Kai-Ming. Following this, Jason was involved as he was aware of footage that proved who killed Chen.

What was the Black Doves alternate ending?

However, it turns out, a slightly different ending was filmed. Black Doves filmed scenes showing it was Irish MI5 agent Perryman who had killed the Chinese ambassador, after being knocked over by Trent Clark on the instructions of Reed. Perryman was who visited Helen and Wallace’s house about the break-in at the US embassy.

Speaking to Tudum, the show’s creator, Joe Barton, said Trent killing ambassador Chen wasn’t always in the script. “There was a different reveal about who killed the Chinese ambassador that we filmed and didn’t end up using,” he said.
