JoJo Siwa ‘feels sick to her stomach’ about Dance Moms reboot replacing Abby Lee Miller

‘Abby Lee is not replaceable’

JoJo Siwa has said she feels “a little sick to [her] stomach” about her former dance coach Abby Lee Miller being replaced by Glo Hampton in the Dance Moms reboot called Dance Moms: A New Era.

JoJo starred on Dance Moms from 2015-2016 during the fifth and sixth seasons of the series alongside her mother Jessalynn Siwa, with JoJo quickly becoming a fan favourite on the show due to her bubbly personality, her sassiness onstage, and her signature extra large sparkly hair bows.

In an exclusive interview with US Weekly, JoJo Siwa said: “It’s tough when you see someone trying to be someone that you love and really care about,” in reference to Glo Hampton taking Abby’s place as the ruthless dance coach of the new show Dance Moms: A New Era.

And while JoJo is “happy” for the new generation of talented young dancers starring on the upcoming reboot of Dance Moms, as “any kids that get a platform like this have a chance to truly change the world”, she highlights Abby’s legacy on the show as a reason why she feels “a little sick” about Abby’s replacement.

In particular, JoJo cites Abby’s trademark “lingo” and distinctive intense teaching styles as reasons why the series shouldn’t attempt to “copy” Abby when Coach Glo becomes the new face of the series later this month.

“Even though Abby says the quote, ‘Everyone’s replaceable’, Abby Lee is not replaceable,” JoJo says in the interview, quoting one of Abby’s signature phrases from the show. “The only person that is not replaceable is the inventor of that quote.”

The reboot, Dance Moms: A New Era, launches on the 7th August, and has pulled a move reminiscent of “studio hopping” on the show. In the brand new, rebooted Dance Moms series, viewers take an inside look at the gruelling rehearsals, meltdowns and explosive mum drama of Studio Blu, a prestigious dance school run by Glo Hampton, as she rules the studio with an iron fist and rigorously moulds her dancers in musicality, tricks and tumbling, ensuring success at national dance competitions. This means that Abby Lee Miller and her ALDC studio have now vanished from the show.

“I think that the show would have a lot more success if Glo was Glo, not if Glo was Abby,” JoJo says, expressing the opinion that the series would attempt to replicate Abby’s distinctive ruthless teaching through Coach Glo.

“And I think that realistically Glo would not do a pyramid, she would not say whether there’s six weeks until nationals, or would not use the exact Abby lingo.”

However, in spite of her doubts surrounding the cast of the spinoff, and Abby’s replacement on the show, JoJo wishes Glo and the new dancers “success”, and says that she will “sure as hell be tuned in”, as she “loves” Dance Moms.

Her comments come as a teaser trailer of the spinoff was posted on Instagram, after Hulu accounted the reboot of the show back in July.
