ITV’s Love Island 2024 is preparing itself for a grand final, now less than a week away, after two months since the reality show hit our screens. But last night’s episode saw fans very disappointed over a regular feature that seems to have been majorly downgraded: Final dates.

Every year on the show, the last remaining couples get to take part in a final date, where they can enjoy extravagant dates which give them an opportunity to boost their public standing for one of the last times before the finale.

Dates in the past have included helicopter rides, luxury yacht trips, hot air balloons and ocean picnics. Remember this stunning date from 2022?

However, this year, the dates put on were much more frugal. The boys were given some cash and sent shopping to buy supplies for dates that took place inside the villa.

The dates were in a word, underwhelming. The boys bought ready-made pizzas, ingredients for meals, waffles, teddy bears and jewellery, and the girls had a pamper session in the dressing room. Then the guys got to work, and the girls were seemingly over the moon with their set ups.

However, the fans watching from home had a very different reaction. Regular viewers were fast to spot the drastic reduction in the flashy final date budget, with some even suggesting that it was because the budget had been blown on Joey Essex’s appearance on the show.

One user posted on X (formerly Twitter): “The final dates are in a villa? They spent their budget on Joey Essex cause what??? We used to have yachts, dinners with famous singers.”

Another argued: “They’re forcing the islanders to plan their own final dates this year 😭?! WHERE HAS THE BUDGET GONE?”

It’s official: The Love Island 2024 dates are going down as the worst in history.

The remaining couples are as follows: Sean and Matilda, Joey and Jessy, Ayo and Jessica, Cieran and Nicole, and Mimii and Josh. With the final just around the corner, it won’t be long before the new winners of the show are crowned.
