OMG! Drag Race’s Jinkx Monsoon cast as ‘major role’ in the new season of Doctor Who

This could literally be the best thing to ever happen

| UPDATED

No need to check the date, this is no April Fool’s Day prank – RuPaul’s Drag Race living legend, the winner of season five and the recently crowned winner of all winners on All Stars 7 has just been announced as cast in season 14 of Doctor Who, when Russell T Davies takes the reigns. Jinkx Monsoon is meant to be playing a ‘major role’ on Doctor Who, and will star alongside Ncuti Gatwa in the new era of the show.

“In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and ‘Doctor Who’ will never be the same again,” showrunner Russell T Davies said, announcing the news.

Jinkx has also made a statement about it, saying “I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join ‘Doctor Who!’ Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer — I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”

Jinkx Monsoon has just finished an acclaimed run as Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway, and the clips of her belting it out all over TikTok have shown how much of a superstar she is. Doctor Who is lucky to have her, what a genius move of casting!

Three special episodes of Doctor Who will air in November 2023, but Jinkx Monsoon is set to join Doctor Who after that – when David Tennant becomes Ncuti Gatwa. It’s all so exciting! What do you think the major role Jinkx is cast as could be?
