Do You Mind? But Crazy Cousinz are coming to York

This will be York’s first ever night of UK Funky

Following a successful year hosting D double E, Preditah, Ms. Dynamite and Section Boyz, this month, the student- run Grime night turns to UK Funky.

On the 28th November, Drop. bring Crazy Cousinz and Roska to Fibbers. They will play alongside RKS label mate, Murder He Wrote for a night of UK Funky, a genre comprising of grime, garage and afrobeat.

Recently, Drake’s sample of Crazy Cousinz’ ‘Do You Mind’ in his hit, ‘One Dance’ drew attention to the genre, which took off with rising popularity in the UK, and has subsequently crept its way into York.

On their Facebook event, Drop. said; “After a year of continual growth and exploration – including a series of exclusive behind-the-scenes projects – we’re back to bringing you the best of UK sound.”

“Sex, drugs and funky house.”

Wayne a.k.a Roska told the Tab, “UK Funky as a whole emerged around 2007 with a handful of us including myself and Crazy Cousinz pioneering the sound and continuing through to the present day. The label has been around as long as the scene has been present too and responsible for giving myself plus Murder He wrote amongst others a nice platform to release this style of music. The scene seems to be attracting new faces and styles so it can only grow positively come 2017 and beyond.”

Aside from the night of UK Funky, in 2017 Drop. have announced that some of the biggest and most exciting MCs in Grime will also be coming to York. These include AJ Tracey, Zed Bias, Sneakbo and Trigga.

Not only is it great to see an expansion of the underground music culture in York, but the support for the student DJs supporting these huge acts should not go unnoticed too.
