Police are appealing for witnesses after the ATM at the NatWest Bank in Heslington was stolen.

According to police, thieves used a digger to force their way into the front of the building and wrench the ATM from the wall.

The digger had been reported stolen from a farm near the Grimston Bar roundabout earlier that evening, and was left at the scene.

The cashpoint was taken away on a truck and the thieves left in a black Jaguar.

The incident was reported in the early hours of this morning.

Although officers were at the bank within three minutes, they were not able to catch the thieves.
