People at Pride Ocean give their opinion on Nottingham’s LGBT+ scene

Chante, you slay

The Nottingham LGBT+ society took over Ocean on Tuesday for their one off Pride Ocean event. The event was a huge success with all things rainbow and glitter, but a lot of people don’t think there’s enough events like it in Nottingham.

We asked some of you at the event what you think of the Notts gay scene.

Jamaya, Abbey and Jesse,  Graphic design and Sociology

Jamaya: ‘I work for Propaganda, we love the gay scene in Nottingham but we do need more gay spaces here.’

Bailey, Politics and International Relations

‘Nottingham uni is really accepting and open in my experience. I wouldn’t really say it’s a gay scene due to the fact people just embrace sexuality! I love the fact that events like this take place, so that everyone can celebrate their pride.’

Dom, Natural Sciences

‘The people are really fun but we need better gay clubs’

Essi, Tom and Hattie, Spanish with European Studies and ICT

‘LOVE IT – you don’t get groped by random boys in gay places! There’s no pressure to be anyone other than yourself too.’

Sophie and Phillipa, Economics and Physiology

‘It’s fabulous’

Alex, Product design and Manufacture Engineering

‘I haven’t seen much of the gay scene and I’ve been here three years. It doesn’t fill an up an ocean every week for example.’

Andrew and Diva, Law and Architecture

‘Everyone isn’t out and proud enough’

Emily, Emily and Katie, Modern Languages

‘it’s just not great’
