Everything you need to know about Do Something Different Week

From making stained glass windows to trying quidditch there’s something for everyone to try.


Do something different week is commonly known around campus as do nothing week, but it doesn't have to be.

Although it seems like a week of some well needed (and deserved) relaxation, do something different week actually holds a lot of opportunities, you just need to get out of bed first.

UEA claim that the whole point of do something different week is to try new things and have fun, sounds very different from your normal seminars right?

The 'Do something different week festival' runs from the 19th – 26th of February, there are so many things going on each day but heres a brief line up of a few of the many things you could do:

Monday 19th Feb:

-Karaoke room

-UEA Active; indoor cycling classes, circuit training, self defence, zumba, boxercise, all only £2. All taking place in the sportspark.

-Insect hotel workshop, try something different and build your very own insect hotel. insect hotel workshop. Meeting at blackdale car park, by the big oak tree

-Italian: food for thought. Learn to cook and explore food cultures around Italy! Taking place at JSC 1.02

-Training in public speaking, could be really helpful for some students. Tec 1.04

-Magic crash course. I think this really speaks for itself. Be there, C.Hall 01.07

Tuesday 20th Feb:

-Beginners card making, get back to your roots with some old fashion arts and crafts at Arts 01.08

-Ceramic plate painting. 'Drop in to create your own ceramic designs for free with South East Asian Society! All are welcome!' at Bookable room 4, union house

-Anime and games, join the anime society and maybe learn something new, JSC 2.02

-Touch rugby, feeling a bit active get your blood pumping and give touch rugby at the sportspark pitches.

Wednesday 21st Feb:

-9 Dart challenge, see if you can beat the darts society at their own game, bookable room 1, union house.

-Volunteering pop up. 'Celebrating Student Volunteering week, find out about a range of different ways you can get experience!' The hive (union house).

-Cookery demonstration, learn to cook some amazing meals with campus kitchens own executive chef in Vista (top of campus kitchen).

-Introduction to skateboarding, they look cool we all know it so why not give it a try yourself, meeting in the square.

-Try quidditch, live your harry potter fantasy in Earlham park.

Thursday 22nd Feb:

-Beginners knitting, its not just for your gran and we do live in the cold cold England so why not give it a try, Arts 01.08

-First aid training, make something of the week and get qualified Arts 0.28

-Calligraphy – the art of handwriting, we've all seen the videos online and they look amazing, Arts 01.14

-Outdoor sculpture, want to know more about those 'artsy' statues on the library and around campus? SU Office or Sainsbury's centre

Friday 23rd Feb:

There are still a limited amount of things to do on the friday but why not make it your rest day and just chill, youll probably need it after such a crazy week.
