Carnage at Kartel!

A 22 year old man has been arrested following an incident involving a shattered pane of glass in Kartel, which injured six people.

Police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Norwich after a pane of glass in the conservatory roof of Kartel shattered, injuring six people.

Police were called to the scene around 4am on Sunday, alongside three ambulances. Three men and three women, mostly in their 20s, sustained “minor and superficial” injuries from shards of glass falling onto them. One of the women suffered a cut to her nose and the others had cuts to their heads. Five of them were taken to Norfolk and Norwich University hospital but have since been released.

The occupants of the club were evacuated after the incident and a man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage.

When questioned, the club’s owner Brad Baxter said: “It was the end of the night and everyone was having a good time when suddenly there was a loud noise and glass started falling from the roof over the dance floor. Someone threw a bottle through the glass roof and a pane came down in several pieces.

“Nobody expected that to happen. We have got to make sure nothing like it happens again. Obviously, our top priority is to reopen but we will have to make it safe first. I think it will cost less than £100 to replace the damage.”

One of the clubbers present, who wished to remain unnamed, told The Tab: “I was pretty drunk but I remember being at the bar getting a drink for me and my mate, then next thing I know the music was turned off and everyone was crowding round an empty bit on the dancefloor where the roof fell in… I didn’t see a man throw anything though as my back was to the dancefloor.

“There was a girl in the toilets – her face was bleeding and there was blood all on the floor. The bouncers were trying to get people out of the club but everyone was drunk so it was hard, and there were paramedics outside Kartel asking people who had been injured to stand in a certain place so they could deal with them.

“I was shocked because I always go to Kartel and nothing like that has ever happened. I love the club though and all the bouncers and workers in there, so this hasn’t put me off going again, though I can see why it might put others off.”
