Snow is coming to Manchester this week

A weather warning has been issued for the north west

Snow is expected in Manchester this week after a yellow weather warning has been issued for Greater Manchester and other parts of the north west. The Met Office predicts between four to eight cm of snow will fall on hilly areas.

Flurries of snow are expected to hit the city on Tuesday afternoon, with the weather warning expected to remain in place until Wednesday morning. It is warned that heavier bursts could potentially bring the snow down to lower areas.

Experts say a band of incoming rain on Tuesday will turn to snow as it encounters cold air.

Drivers are warned across the north west to be aware of potentially difficult driving conditions and take care on the roads over the next couple of days.
