A 19-year-old girl was grabbed on Oxford Road on Saturday


Police have charged a 23-year-old after a girl was grabbed on Oxford Road on Saturday morning.

Jack Kelly, from Stockport, has been accused of attempted rape and will appear before magistrates today.

The attack happened by All Saints park

Kelly was arrested after a 19-year-old girl was grabbed in the early hours on Saturday morning on her way back from work, near Man Met.

The police were called at around 5.30am on Saturday to reports of an attempted rape.

Officers said the victim was approached and grabbed from behind by Man Met, close to All Saints Park and St Augustine’s Church, just off Oxford Road.

The offender ran off after a passer-by disturbed the offender.

A GMP spokesman said: “A man has been charged following an attempted rape in south Manchester.

“Jack Kelly, 23, of Merton Avenue, Hazel Grove, was charged and due before Manchester City Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 22 December 2015.

“At around 5.30am on Saturday 19 December 2015, the woman was walking home from work.

“As she approached to All Saints Park and St Augustine’s Church, just off Oxford Road, she was grabbed from behind.”
