£30 bike cheap bikes green green guild guilds scheme

After all those mince pies and celebration tubs its probably a good idea to consider squeezing in an extra bit of cardio – you can even save a bit of cash while you’re at it.

A new student led sustainable project has now been opened up by the Guild which means you can rent a bike until June for a mere £30.

With a total number of 27 bikes available to hire, and in a variation of different sizes, the initiative is right in line with those all important 2016 fitness resolutions.

Yasmin approves.

The project was originally part of LivCycle, but has now been adopted as part of the Guild’s ‘Green Guild’ initiative. As part of the of the scheme, students are encouraged to partake in social enterprises – whether you have a great idea, or just want to take part.

It’s cool to be green

The Guild’s deputy-president, Alex Ferguson is chuffed with the new initiative.

He told The Tab: “This is a fantastic scheme that lets you rent a bike for next to nothing.

“Cycling is a great way to exercise and is so much greener than taking the bus! It all started with our social enterprise fund, which anyone can apply for.”

First-year Popular Music student Thomas Curtis also thinks highly of the new project.

Thomas said: “The whole scheme is great! The more people that take part, the greener we are and obviously it’s so much cheaper than any other form of travel, with all the health benefits too.”

There’s plenty of places to lock up.

The £30 means you can keep hold of the bike until June and it comes with a D-lock – which retail for around £20 alone – so you won’t need to worry about losing your bike any time soon.
