Pembroke June Event Headliner REVEALED

Get ready to dance the night away

Taking Pembroke’s main stage this year will be the 4 piece indie rock band from Yorkshire, ‘King No-One’. Following on from a successful 2017 in which they became the first ever unsigned band to play BBC Radio 1’s prestigious NME stage at Reading and Leeds festival, the group have a busy summer ahead of them, set to perform at a range of UK festivals including TRNSMT, Y Not Festival and Kendall Calling. But before they do so, they will be stopping by Pembroke’s June Event as their headline act.

The young band cut their teeth busking on streets up and down the country, but with their hit song Alcatraz having recently hit a million Spotify streams and finding increasing radio air time, they are destined for bigger things.

2018 has graced the band with a string of sell-out shows. In light of their ability to write catchy, dance-inducing hits as well as mellower tracks, they are deservedly finding a growing fanbase.

Pembroke will also welcome a wide range of musicians from across the university and the Cambridge area. With relaxed acoustic sets, upbeat funk, blaring rock groups, smooth jazz/hip-hop fusions and seasoned DJs, there will certainly be something for everyone. Familiar faces will include local DJ Nick Carter, Cambridge favourite Colonel Spanky’s Love Ensemble and Pembroke’s very own Kieran Daly, set to take the main stage in his final year as a student here.

Also appearing at Pembroke will be comedy prodigy Ken Cheng. Winner of Dave’s funniest joke award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival of 2017 ahead of figures such as Frankie Boyle and Tim Vine, this former Cambridge student is making a name for himself in the comedy world. He was listed on the BBC’s New Talent Hotlist, and it’s clear to see why. This rising star is sure to put on a great show and have guests in stitches.

The Pembroke team are advertising ‘Nightfall’ as inspired by the likes of Blade Runner and the vaporwave movement and will feature a whole host of cyberpunk themes and vibrant cityscape decor.

For those lucky to have tickets for the sold out event with 400+ students on the waiting list, Night will fall at 9pm on the 20th of June.
