Students at Sidney Sussex College opened their inboxes to the shocking news that their beloved college cat, Pebbles had been put down.

In an emotional email sent out to members of the college, the Vice Master stated that Pebbles was put to a 'swift and managed end' after being ill for some time.

He continued to commend Pebbles for his 'independent feline spirit' and states that he 'belonged to us all'.

A grieving Porter told The Tab very noncommittally that it was simply 'old age', although he did admit that he had absolutely no idea how old Pebbles actually was

News of the bereavement comes at an unfortunate time for Sidney students taking their exams this term.

Those wishing to make tribute to this remarkable cat will find him buried in Sidney Sussex gardens under the beech tree, near the wooden bench at the rear of the cloister court building.

Rest in Peace Pebbles.
