Teacher under ban for sending sexual messages to a student is now teaching at Bristol Uni

Daisy WiggLindsey Bauer has began working part-time at The University of Bristol and studying a PhD. She left her previous teaching role at Colyton Grammar School in Exeter after she was found to have sent sexual messages to a student.
Following a hearing by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), she has been banned from teaching at any school, sixth-form college or youth accommodation for at least five years. This ban, however, does not extend to universities.
The allegations took place between 2018 to 2022, and during this time Ms Bauer was found to have “failed to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with a student”, who is said to be of sixth form age. The actions include: “Suggesting they arrange face-to-face meetings” and making “inappropriate advances”.
Following a review of evidence her conduct was also found to be “sexually motivated”.
She is now enrolled as a history PhD student at the University of Bristol, which includes direct contact with students.

The professional conduct panel, made up of two board members and one teacher, found each of the allegations to be proven and recommended an “indefinite ban” effective immediately.
They stated that the sexual motivation of the actions was a significant factor in their decision and believed that “the public interest considerations outweighed the interests of Ms Bauer”. Ms Bauer can apply for a review after five years.
Ms Bauer denies her actions were sexually motivated but does accept “each of the allegations amounted to unacceptable professional conduct”.
A spokesperson at the University of Bristol told Bristol Live: “We can confirm that Lindsey Bauer has discussed the misconduct panel outcome with us. She is a PhD student here and, as is common practice for postgraduate students, she also has a part-time teaching assistant role within the university.”
