Aberystwyth titled ‘The most pro-EU place in Britain’

Ceredigion is the most enthusiastic area in the country

A recent YouGov poll of 80,000 Britons showed our town and county to be the most pro-EU over the 188 other surveyed areas.

Despite being in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of miles away from the centres of power, Aberystwyth has repeatedly stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Brussels, readily taking refugees both in the First World War and during the ongoing conflict in Syria.

As for politics, Ceredigion has consistently shaken off the larger parties in favour of smaller, non-conformist parties such as Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats.

Eurosceptic parties have failed repeatedly to make any headway in Aber leaving the Remain Campaign to feel so comfortable with the town’s views, they didn’t start campaigning until this morning!

A bright and shiny day in Aber

Not only do Aber residents appear to support staying in the EU, but the university with it’s strong European links is almost 15% comprised of foreign students. It should therefore come as no surprise that our little town is so familiar and friendly towards the EU.

If you walk along the seafront promenade during the summer holidays you’ll see all the European nation’s flags flying proudly on the white polls – they even honour smaller ‘nations’ like Brittany, Cornwall and Catalonia in a sign of European solidarity.

Whatever your views on the EU, you can’t deny that Ceredigion has certainly made up it’s mind already.
