Bloodthirsty brutes posed with dead rabbits in a bath and smeared their blood across walls and corridors.

The University have now launched an investigation into animal cruelty after a picture showed the student cradling his kill in Pantycelyn halls.

Further investigation has revealed dead rabbits were also found in washing machines in the halls at the end of April.

The rabbits were found when staff reportedly found smears of blood across the hallways and the carpet around the shower room.

Aber Student Media have reported there are two photographs which have been seized by staff showing a man posing in a bloodstained bath clutching a dead rabbit.

It is still uncertain whether the two incidents are related, and it is also unknown whether the rabbits were alive or dead when put in the washing machine.

The staff member who found the rabbits said: “Two dead rabbits were found by the Pantycelyn porters and their blood was smeared on a wall.

“In another incident, a guy posted a picture of himself on Facebook having a bath with a rabbit corpse.

“There was a dead rabbit found in a washing machine a while ago.

“No one knows whether it was dead or alive when it went in. People are claiming these are unrelated incidents, but I find that hard to believe.

“I think names have been handed to the police but I don’t know who.”

Following these events, the University have confirmed a thorough investigation into the incidents is already going on.

A spokesperson for the University said: “The University is deeply concerned and disappointed by the reported antisocial behaviour of some Pantycelyn residents.

“The alleged harming of animals, and the destruction of University property, is wholly unacceptable.

“Aberystwyth University prides itself on being one of the safest places in the UK to be a student, and this kind of behaviour is exceptionally rare within our community.”

Third year Jack Hemsworth, who studies Geography, said: “It’s vile what they did.

“Obviously if I was friends with them I’d be shocked and disgusted.

“At the very least they should be kicked out of halls, it’s completely anti social behaviour.

“However, any further ramifications should be left until the police and University have fully investigated the situation.”

Alex Othen, third year English student, added: “It sounds like something out of a horror film.

“I hope the people who did it are caught. I would’ve hated to be the one who found the rabbits, it’s horrible enough reading about it.”
