Uni makes £13,000 profit from halls

Last year was the first time in three years they made a profit

The Uni raked in £13,000 from student accommodation last year

The figures, revealed in an FOl, show last academic year (2013/2014) was the first year in the past three that Aberystwyth profited from their halls.

Remember all the days and nights spent in there – was it worth the money?

Until the opening of Fferm Penglais, 1,659 rooms were provided for students on campus, with the average price of a single bedroom being £3,645 in halls like Cwrt Mawr and PJM.

Parking on campus is a pain. Could the Uni use the 13,000 quid for that?

Interpol second year Chris thinks: “Depending on what halls you’re in makes a difference on value. Some of the Cwrt Mwar halls were awful and yet they were still paying the same as me in Trefloyne which was much more luxurious by comparison.”

Is this cosier than a brand-new en-suite studio in Penglais Farm?

Students free from money troubles can move into Penglais Farm and royally reside in a Studio for £6,650 – although the budget accommodation Brynderw  might not be hitting in your pocket as badly.

In 2014/2015, a single room in Brynderw was “only” £2,988.

Penglais Farm opened this year, but profits for 2014/2015 have not yet been released.
