Joey Essex says he confronted Love Island producers because he was livid over being dumped

Since he left the villa, Joey Essex has done a tell-all interview about his time on the show. It was long questioned that Joey Essex may have been getting special treatment whilst in the villa, and then yesterday it was reported he was in regular contact with Love Island 2024 producers.

MailOnline is reporting Joey was “promised the final” by bosses on the show, and was fuming when he was voted out with Jessy earlier than then. Sources close to the show also told the publication Joey spent “two to three hours” a day out of the villa, which he spent with producers and away from the cameras.

Now in an interview with The Sun, Joey himself has said he did feel like a “producer plant”, and said he was added to the show to “cause drama”. He also said he was livid when he was dumped, and confronted the producers about how his exit came about.

He has said he wasn’t happy with how he was dumped, and warned producers not to do that to another Islander again. He called it “savage” that all the previous Islanders came back, and that he then had to stand around the fire pit as they dished opinions and ripped into him. Joey said he only managed to deal with the situation because he’s experienced in reality TV.

He said: “If you want to talk about bullying – in that moment, the finger pointing at me, it not being about compatibility at all, it was all personal, all towards Joey, and sit there and take that. You know, if there’s one bit of advice I could give producers is never put a rookie, a young Islander or anyone, in the position that I was in when I got dumped on Love Island, because it could have been a different story.

“You’ve got to remember, I’m a human. I’ve got feelings. I’ve got heart. That was very savage. And it was very, very difficult to take. It hurt a lot. But luckily, I’m very resilient and I’m very strong minded. And I’ve got a brave face. They know someone like me with a strong mind can take it, that’s why I was put in that position.”

Asked if he’d had confronted bosses after filming, Joey added: “Yeah of course. It’s like, why did you do that? Could have got me out a better way! I wasn’t there to ever win. You know, if someone wants to win, they don’t do the journey I did. You go a different way about it. I just was there to entertain, find love and have a great time.”

ITV has clapped back at any claims Joey got special treatment, and said: “Joey has not been treated differently at all at any point of the process both pre, during and post featuring on the series. We completely refute any claim as all Islanders are treated equally.”
