Matthew Perry Emmys tribute

Matthew Perry was honoured with an emotional tribute at the Emmy Awards last night

They played an acoustic version of I’ll Be There for You and I’m not ok

The 75th Emmy Awards were held last night and Matthew Perry was honoured with an emotional tribute.

In October 2023, the world was left shocked and saddened after Friends star Matthew Perry died at the age of 54 after being found “unresponsive” at his home.

Last night’s award ceremony had an “In Memoriam” segment which honoured all the actors, writers and producers who passed away since the last awards.

Singers Charlie Puth and duo The War and Treaty performed an acoustic and stripped-back version of the Friends theme tune I’ll Be There for You by the Rembrandts.

As they sang, photos of the late celebrities were projected on the screen behind them. Matthew Perry was the last one to appear and was met with huge applause and a standing ovation from the audience.

The photo then transitioned to a collage of all the other significant people who were honoured.

Following the tribute, hundreds of people have posted on Twitter sharing their heartbreak and paying their own tributes to the Chandler Bing actor.

One person said: “Lost it when Matthew Perry came on and they were singing I’ll Be There For You” and another person added: “Wow the Friends theme song/Matthew Perry tribute at the Emmys really just took me out”
